CATARACT SURGERY

CATARACT SURGERY

Some of UK's best surgeons perform our cataract surgery. These experts use advanced technologies, including smart procedures like Zeiss CallistoGuided Astigmatism Correction, Artificial Intelligence-Controlled Lens Selection, and Laser Cataract Surgery. To improve your vision, we work closely with lens manufacturers.

Cataract surgery defined

This procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and does not cause any pain. The duration of this treatment is usually 10 to 15 minutes at which time the lens is implanted via a microscopic keyhole suture-less incision for the cornea.

When your natural eyes can no longer see clearly, and your vision is cloudy, it is described as cataract. Surgery is required.

This optical disorder can happen at any age, but it usually affects people that are above 60 years. The unclear lens protein which causes dull vision is taken out during cataract surgery and replaced by a lens implant which can fix your glasses recommendation or prescription for long and short distance sights.

You can learn more about this surgery, what it involves and post-surgery care when you schedule an appointment with us at Optimal Vision. In the meantime, let's discuss financing for cataract surgery.

Patients have different needs, and optical care is not different. So, we don't have a standard single treatment plan but tailor our treatment to suit the unique eye needs. By doing so, you will receive the right care your eyes demand.

  • Best eyecare experts

  • Advanced healthcare technology

Eye surgery is not for amateurs! It demands accurate precision. This is the reason why we have invested a lotinto procuring only the most recent state-of-the-art technology. There are no special ties between us and any manufacturer; we are free to choose what we deem is the best. This enables us to take time in selecting them from the many alternatives we have.

  • Reliable professionals

Since we understand how unique the eyes are, gaining the trust of patients is a priority. Our method is not hideous, and we offer the right treatment ensuring your interest is always protected. We have the finest staff in our practice to provide every support you need throughout the procedure.

WhyPick Optimal Vision For Your Surgery?

When considering surgical cataract treatment, your choice of surgeon should be top of mind. But this is what qualifies us:

  • We are among the UK's top surgeons

Our refractive surgeons have been known for achieving outstanding results from treating cataract using laser surgery to fix optical issues. This is a procedure that many UK cataract surgeons are not able to provide to improve outcome, and it's key to getting the best from high-quality lens implants. A good number of patients who need laser treatment are eager to use their eyes again without glasses post-cataract surgery. We can evaluate patients using wavefront tech to know if an implant usinga trifocal lens will work for such situations.

  • The finest International lens company are our partners

In cataract surgery, we utilisethe best quality lens technology to fix glasses prescription for patients. This covers long sight, short sight, and astigmatism. By doing this, we can provide apremium andextensive level of focus, trifocal, and standard monofocal lens implants to make our patients free from the use of glasses.

Many people believe their vision to be exceedingly better without glasses and contact lens since the need for them has been fixed. Also, most patients may qualify for corrective lenses for both long and short sights simultaneously. This removes the need for reading glasses; balancing the eyes for a more natural vision.

  • We handle complex cases under cataract surgery expertly

Since we carry out corneal transplant and reconstructive surgery, other general eye surgeons sometimes refer severe cases to us. This includes cataract surgery in Fuchs' dystrophy, radial keratotomy, and combined corneal transplantations. We also perform complex reconstruction of the front of the eye plus the implantation of artificial pupil segments and iris. These are just a few of the severe cases we handle at our practice. And it may interest you to know that these have been successfully completed!

  • Insurer-recognised

All the relevant private health insurers, with the inclusion of AXA PPP and BUPA  in the UK,recognise us, and we belong to their fee assured cataract care channels.

  • Our surgeons treat astigmatism always

Using toric lens implants or limbal relaxing incisions, astigmatism is always treated here at our practice. The aim is to help you see without sight aids. For precise available lens prediction, we employ Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven Lenstarbiometer and progressively check our outcomes for great results. Not only that, we can adjust our outcome using laser eye surgery to give you the best vision as much as possible.

  • We are specialists in cataract surgery for patients who have undergone laser eye surgery previously

Since we also carry out laser surgery, we have excellent knowledge when treating cataract via surgery on patients who have had LASIK or LASEK earlier on. Predicting lens calculation in previous laser patients is less, which is why this knowledge is crucial. We can also carry out top-up laser eye surgery to gain best results post-cataract surgery.

Innovative Lens Technologies For Performing Cataract Surgery

Before now, what was possible was the simple extraction of a lens or cataract via cataract surgery or permanent lens replacement procedure. But right now, you can have your vision fully restored. We work closely with companies that produce lens to get premium and effective technologies.

Our lenses come with built-in UV filters for more visual safety. We have the following lens technology:

  • TecnisEyhance enhanced monofocal lens
  • Trifocal lenses including the Tecnis Synergy, Rayner Rayone trifocal and PhysiolFinevision trifocal
  • Much more advanced tech

  • Phakic IOL surgery

We are professionals when it comes to the treatment of high myopia; hence we havein-depth knowledge and can handle the Phakic IOL technology (a visual contact lens that can be implanted).

This treatment takes care of patients with difficulty seeing what they read. Other names for it are permanent lens replacement surgery, PreLex (presbyopic lens exchange), and Clear lens extraction (CLE).

FAQs

Early signs of cataract may be blurred, cloudy, or dim vision. In the case of myopia or hypermetropia, how close you are to an object determines how well you'll see it. But in the case of cataract, you won't be able to see an object clearly regardless of how close or far away you are from it.

Some other signs and symptoms of cataract include:

  • Double vision
  • Alterations in colour vision such that colours may look faded in your eyes
  • Light sensitivity or glare

The cause of cataract is not clearly defined, but certain risk factors trigger it. One of which is age. Older adults are typically affected by this condition. Second is genetic inheritance. If you have a history of cataract in your family, you might experience it. If these are responsible for cataract, you won't be able to control them. However, other causes that could be controlled are:

  • Past injuries to the eyes
  • Smoking
  • Diabetes
  • The use of alcohol and steroids
  • Exposure to UV rays

There is no pain associated with cataract; however, seeing a doctor upon experiencing any of the symptoms mentioned above may be of help. Remember that an early eye check will lower the effect of cataract more than a late check.

Before starting the operation, patients are given a local anaesthetic in the form of eye drops to make them numb to any pain while the surgery is performed. You can also get sedated to make you more comfortable

During the surgery, an incision will be made on your eye to take out the cloudy lens. The surgeon can do this either manually, by using a surgical blade, or they may employ femtosecond laser. Any of the technique used is safe with minimal risks.

To take out the cataract, the capsule bag will be operated upon to make a hole, and the lens will be disintegrated into smaller bits.

After removing the lens, a new Intraocular Lens (IOL) will be gently implanted via ultra-precise keyhole surgery. You will get a tailor-made lens that allows you to see very clearly. See us for more information about our quality IOLS.

Patients are made to rest after the whole procedure and regain sensitivity from the anaesthetic. You will be allowed to go home after getting instructional eyecare information from your surgeon. Post-surgery expectations will also be explained to you. Patients are to put on sunglasses hours after surgery and when they go out for a week. Eye drops will be recommended for use to keep infection and inflammation at bay for two weeks. After some days, you should be able to return to your normal activities. After five days, you should be strong enough to exercise a little and get back to full exercise after two weeks.

At the clinic, eye drops will be administered to dilate your pupils. How to take care of your eyes post-treatment will be discussed with you by a nurse. The surgeon will take a look at your consent form and discuss the entire procedure with you.

To numb your eyes, anaesthetic eye drops will be applied to them. On many occasions, a local anaesthetic is used for the procedure, but occasionally general or mild sedation may be administered. An estimated 10 to 15 minutes is spent on each eye during the surgery. When this is done, you will rest for between 30 to 45 minutes.

Upon completion of the surgery and after taking your rest, your eyes will be re-examined by the surgeon before you go home. It is expected that your eyes will feel tired for the remaining hours of the day, which is why it is advised that you rest at home.

After this time, you will get to see, though your eyes will be a little misty for 2 to 3 days. Based on what the issue was before treatment, you may observe significant changes immediately.

Yes. But the kind of lens we use are from the best manufacturers to give you maximum visuals.

See the lenses offered at Optimal Vision:

  • Premium Monofocal Lens Implant: These are the implant types used for cataract surgery on the NHS. Effective as they are in fixing vision, this lens has just one focus. This makes them suitable for either short-sight or long-sight, but not both. Distance lens will enable you to drive really well, yet you'll need glasses to see near objects like when you want to read books, use a laptop and watch tvprogrammes.

Age-related cataract can be corrected with premium monofocal lens where it enhances visual features like contrast sensitivity. At our practice, we use the Rayonemonofocal lens from Rayner.

  • Enhanced premium monofocal lens implants. This is an improved version of the regular monofocal lens. The enhanced lens can fix both short-sight and long-sight. The range of the lens is extended; thus, you may or may not need reading glasses to watch TV. However, enhanced monofocals can work for casual reading like a text message, but for close, continuous reading of a small text, you may need glasses. Here, it is the Johnson and Johnson Eyhance lens implant that we use.
  • Multifocal lens implants. Should you be getting treatment on the NHS, your choice of lens is limited. But if you're having a private lens surgery, you have a wide range of latest tech lenses to choose from including Intraocular ToricMonofocal and Multifocal Lenses.

The kind of lens you choose depends on you. This means that your lifestyle, visual needs, what you do in your free time, astigmatism or any other eye defect, and if you drive will be considered. Every lens is of high quality, CE marked, and have been tested to permit implantation. For great outcome, multifocal lens implants are combined with femtosecond laser cataract surgery. Our multifocal lenses are below.

  • Trifocal Lens Implants. Should you be getting treatment on the NHS, your choice of lens is limited to only monofocal lenses. But if you're having a private lens surgery, you have a wide range of latest tech lenses to choose from. Latest multifocal lenses are trifocal and lenses with more focus depth.customise

The kind of lens you choose depends on what you. This means that your lifestyle, visual needs, what you do in your free time, astigmatism or any other eye defect, and if you drive will be considered. Every lens is of high quality and comes from best manufacturers, including Johnson & Johnson, Rayner, Finevision, and Zeiss. For great outcome, multifocal lens implants are combined with femtosecond laser cataract surgery.

Here, our surgeons use Alcon Panoptixquadfocal, Finevision Trifocal, Johnson & Johnson Synergy EDOF Trifocal, and Rayner Rayone Trifocal lenses. After having a full diagnosis and consultation, your specialist will help you choose the right lens for a better vision.

  • Toric lens implant. Available in monofocal and trifocal formats, toric lenses can fix astigmatism, which is a common eye problem that affects vision.
  • The patient's choice of surgeon does private surgery. You can choose the surgeon you want to carry out your surgery, and it stands. We at Optimal Vision, have a complication rate less than 0.5% and a 0% infection rate. By this, you can get bespoke care.
  • A consultant supervises every part of your treatment. Every level of planning sees the outcome being improved. The consultant handles the selection of lens and surgical procedure. In the same way, any issue that arises after the operation is taken care of by the consultant.
  • Patients now have the chance to choose from a variety of premium lens technology. A large number of private patients can get access to an advanced lens like the trifocal lens, which has extended depth of focus; eliminating the need for glasses for short-sight and long-sight. Getting these lenses and using them for NHS surgery is not possible. Plus, you are not allowed to top-up and pay the extra cost of these lenses by the NHS.
  • Treatment of astigmatism. It is a standard practice to fix astigmatism with toric lenses in private clinics; however, only severe astigmatism gets treated under some conditions on the NHS.
  • Private clinic offers access to femtosecond laser cataract surgery. Incisions without surgical blade and optimal implantation of the lens via this latest technology is possible at private surgery.
  • Surgery at your convenience. All those long waiting lists can be avoided -- you can have your surgery when you want at a private clinic
  • Laser adjustment of outcome for vision without glasses. Some clinics like Optimal Vision gives the chance to improve the result of cataract surgery via laser eye surgery if it is required. This next approach of refinement solves the riddle of how well you can see, especially when you're interested in an advanced lens like a trifocal. Do well to find out from your surgeon if this refinement is available should you be interested in getting a multifocal lens.
  • Medical cover for cataract surgery. Private medical insurance providers like the AXA and BUPA will take care of cataract surgery and provide cataract care channels. Note that there are some choices of lenses that may cost more depending onyour level of cover.
